The Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Pontianak City is collaborating with the Faculty of Engineering at Syiah Kuala University to research the development of scenarios for tidal flood threats. This research is funded by the Flood Impacts, Carbon Pricing, and Ecosystem Sustainability (FINCAPES) Project. Michael Lynch, a representative of FINCAPES from the University of Waterloo, stated that they are working with NGOs, the government, and the community to respond to climate change. Pontianak City was chosen as the research location due to its geographical position and the increasing impact of climate change. "It is hoped that this study can predict future floods," he said.
